Work at Awapuni

TIDE WAITER AND QUADROON GO WELL CONDITIONS WERE PERFECT ON SATURDAY The conditions were perfect for track work at Awapuni on Saturday morning, the weather being fine and the going firmer than on Thursday. The course proper was open and the flags were about 15 feet out. There were two feature gallops. The first of them was that of Tidewaiter (Tattersall) and Quadroon (Bowden) and it was over seven furlongs. With Tidewaiter on the outer and giving away some weight, they ran the first two in 27 2-5, four in 54 3-5, and they came home strongly though with something in reserve to complete in 1.36. It was a, fine effort and they could have done better. The other was that in which Catalogue (Ireland) went with Old Surrey (McGregor) over six. They ran the first three in 40 3-5 and they came home in 40 1-5 to complete in 1.20 4-5. Catalogue has not had much galloping but ho improves with every one ho does have. Old Surrey covered a bit of extra ground but ho finished very well and Catalogue was with him at the post. Sporting Gift- (Iv. Ivauake) sprinted five in good style but it was not possible to time him. Ho did his work like a tradesman and he is in excellent order for Trentham. It is possible that B. H. Morris will ride him in his Wellington engagements. Erebus (Jarvis) was allowed to bowl along over a mile and he was speeded up for the last threo in 42. There is nothing wrong with his condition. Power Chief (McDonald) was galloped a mile with Raeburn (Ireland) and Colonel Bogey (D. Redstone) and tho last-named was on the outer. They were together all the way and after travelling half a mile in 57$ they camo home strongly to complete the last seven in I. All worked well. Malik Kaf'ur (Tattersall) was just in front of Patahi (Williamson) at the end of five in 1.8, and Snigger (Redstone) accomplished a similar task in 1.8 4-5. Fine Gold and a brother of Titter ran three in 40 3-5, and Old Bill was not asked to do much better than even timo over five. A good effort was that of Classform (Tattersall) who slipped over five in 1.6 4-5, breaking 40 for the last three It was a smart effort. Another interesting gallop was that of The Crooner (Ireland) over six furlongs. He did not get off the mark very quickly and he appeared to be working very hard. He reached the three in 40 4-5 and he was going along well as he ran to the straight. He was easing up at the finish, his time for the distance being 1.24 3-5.
