Makino
On Tuesday afternoon members of the recently-formed gardening circle in connection with the Women’s Institute met at the home of Mrs. T. Brown, Pharazyn’s Road, Makino, and the day being gloriously fine an enjoyable time was speut in the garden. Mrs. Heaynes, who is the leader of the circle, arranged the afternoon and Mrs. Brown kindly threw open her home and garden for the occasion. • Mr. fc3. Mason, of Feeding, gave a talk on the planting, pruning and care of roses, and planted a rose bed with young trees to demonstrate his talk. Afternoon tea was served indoors and a competition, which was won by Mr. Mason, enlivened proceedings. Airs. Heaynes, on behalf of the members, thanked Mr. Alason for his helpful advice, and also thanked Mrs. Brown for her hospitality and the very pleasant afternoon spent at her home. On Wednesday afternoon the fortnightly euchre party was held and a good attendance was present. The prizes wero won as follows:—Ladies, Mrs. Langford, of Feilding, 1, Miss J. Moore, sealed prize; men, Air. Bradant 1, Air. B. Thurston, sealed prize. The prizes were donated by Airs. Boycs, of l’almerstou North, and Mr. W. E. Hills. The samo evening a meeting of the hall committee was held, when it was decided to hold a dance to raise funds, the function to be held on July 19. An advertisement relating to this will appear in a later issue.
