Show Attractions

HALLS TRANSFORMED One of the features of the Winter Show, opening on Saturday, should be the exhibit arranged by the Department of Agriculture. It is nearly two years siDce a departmental exhibit has been staged in Palmerston North, and never before has the Winter Show been favoured in this manner. Many changes have taken place in agriculture in the meantime, and the expression of those changes has been tackled by the Department through the instruction of the men on the land. All sections of agricultural science are dealt with in the exhibit and officers of the Department will be in attendance to discuss any matters of interest and to give information in respect of their exhibit. Demonstrations and addresses will also be given at certain times each day.

One really important part will be that dealing with hydatid control in which the Department is co-operating with Dr. E. W. Barnett, research officer of the Hydatid Investigation Committee. Important is the fact that over 3000 people each year are forced to receive surgical attention to riff themselves of this menace. When it is considered that, with the co-operation of the farming community in the dosing of dogs and care in feeding dogs, this disease could be eliminated, every endeavour should be made? to free New Zealand from hydatids at the earliest opportunity.

Other equally important and interesting divisions of thjs exhibit will be devoted to pigs, horticulture, seed-testing, poultry, diseases of sheep and cattle, wool-growing ar'd preparation of wool for sale.

The preparations for the holding of the Show are advancing rapidly and by the time Saturday comes the whole of the halls will have been transformed into a vast exhibition that will evoke admiration from those who pass through in search of interesting features. Especial trouble is being taken in many cases to make the stands specially well worth while in view of the fact that the Show will last a week from this Saturday.
