Remarkable Shooting By Masefield, Junior

THREE OFF POSSIBLE AT FOUR RANGES Per Press Association. BLENHEIM, Last Night. Remarkable shooting by Masefield, son of Captain Masefield, King’s Piizeman at the National Rifle Meeting at Trentham, was a feature of the Marlborough championships. In ten shots each at the 300, 200, 500 and 600 yards ranges he dropped only three points, scoring 49, 50, 50 and 48—a grand total of 197 out of a possible of 200. He won the championship belt, besides several other trophies. In a sequence of 40 shots Masefield got fours with his first, thirty-fourth and thirty-ninth shots, all the rest being bull ’s-eyes. This performance is considered a record for Marlborough and must necessarily run close any similar record for a provincial meeting in the Dominion. The conditions at the commencement of the shooting were not good, light rain impairing visibility, but as the day drew on the weather improved.
