Manchester Street School
MEETING OF COMMITTEE The committee of the Manchester Street School, Feilding, met on Monday evening, Mr. G. J. Fitzpatrick (chairman) presiding. There were also present: Messrs. L. J. Carmine, Z. McLeod, J. Campbell, R. Burne, E. R. Mathews and Mrs. S. McDowall. The chairman reported on the installation of gas heaters in the kindergarten school building and consideration was also being given to the question of installing a coke heater. In regard to the electric tubular heating system in the school proper, the Wanganui Education Board had advised that it was endeavouring to obtain a grant from the Department to assist towards the cost. The matter’ of the school buses bringing children from Awahuri and Makino to the Lytton Street School and Convent School, being requested to call at the Manchester Street School to set down any children wishing to attend that school, was reviewed by the chairman. The Education Board steadfastly refused to agree to the representations of the committee and, as chairman of the committee, he wished those parents interested to know that the case had been fully represented to the Education Board. After hearing the chairman, the committee agreed that nothing further could be done in the matter. In offering his congratulations to the school on the success of the children’s fancy-dress ball, the chairman referred to the supper arrangements, which he hoped would be a matter for consideration with the object of providing an improved organisation. The teachers had worked splendidly and the children had been on their very best behaviour.
