Feilding Youth for Royal Air Force

ME. BEG. CARTER'S APPOINTMENT

Mr. Reg. Carter, son of Mr. and Mrs. A. R. Carter, of Monmouth Street, Feilding, has accepted a short service commission in the Royal Air Force and will leave for England on June 15. Enthusiastic towards aviation a lad, Mr. Carter lost no opportunity, on completing his schooling, to satisfy his desire to become a pilot and, joining the Middle Districts Aero Clnb, it was not long before he gained a pilot ’s **A” license as well as a pilot’s passenger license. These successes inspired him to go further afield and his enthusiasm and qualifications have been rewarded by the offer of a short service commission in the Royal Air Force, which he has accepted. He is to be congratulated upon the progress he has made, a progress the more meritorious because it was won by hia, own initiative and enterprise. Born in the Bay of Plenty, Mr. Carter first went to school at Hamilton, moving from there with his parents to Feilding, where he studied at the Feilding Agricultural High School and the Palmerston North Bovs’ High School. In 1936 he took up training with the Middle Districts Aero Club and while associated with his father in the hardware manufacturing business in Feilding, has kept up flying assiduously. A keen sportsman, Mr. Carter is a wellknown member of the Feilding Cricket Club, being a batsman of »no mean ability, winning the bat for the highest average score this year He is also a member of the Feilding Old Boys’ Football Club and is playing in the senior team in the present competitions. He will carry with him to England the best wishes of all his friends for his success and advancement in his new career. On arriving in England, Mr. Carter will assume the rank of actingPilot Officer and will be posted to Uxbridge for his initial studies, thence to an aviation training school.
