280 LIVES IN EIGHT YEARS United Press Association.—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright. PHILADELPHIA, May 11. It is announced that 25 men and women were arrested in connection with a vast “murder for profit” syndicate, which it is now believed took at least 2SO lives in eight years. It is revealed that the organisation had a branch office in Pittsburgh and also representatives in nearby States to carry out amazing murder schemes. The ring aided dissatisfied wives to poison their husbands, in return for which they collected a share of the insurance. It is understood that tho syndicate also performed cold-blooded killings for lump-sum payments. Thirteen widows are among the prisoners. Eleven of them are charged with murdering their husbands and eight arc reported to have confessed.
