Evening Wedding at St. Andrew’s Church
MCDONALD—TILY A pretty wedding, attracting the interest of many friends, was celebrated at St. Andrew’s Church, Palmerston North, on the evening of Alay 6, when Audrey Edmund, youngest daughter of Air. and Mrs. N. A. Tily, of Broadway Avenue, Palmerston North, was married to Johu Jackson, eldest son# of Mr. and Airs. R. AlcDonald, of Nightcaps, Southland. Tho ceremony was performed by Rev. J. Hubbard, M.A., 8.D., and Air. A. J. Graham played the wedding music. Cyclamen and white flowers artistically arranged by girl friends provided an effective setting. Tho bride, who was given away by her lather, was picturesque in a lovely gown of ivory cire needlerun lace over satin, fashioned on slender lines. The softly shirred bodice was finished with a spray of orange blossom, and tho skirt swept into a graceful train, over which billowed the embroidered tulle veil, which was held to her head with a coronet of orange blossom. Her only ornamont was a necklace of pearls and she carried a sheaf of St- Joseph lilies, nerines and maidenhair fern.
There were two bridesmaids in attendance, Aliss Edna Tily, sister of the bride, and Aliss Zoe French. They -were similarly attired in frocks of ivory cire self-patterned taffeta, tho bodices having high-cowled necklines, finished at the back with a row of tiny buttons, the sleeves also being cowled and the skirts slightly trained. They wore topknots of cyclamen flowers, long kid gloves and carried bouquets of cyclamen chrysanthemums, fuchsias, nerines and maidenhair fern. Pearl necklets, the gifts of the bridegroom, were also worn.
The bridegroom was supported by Mr, Alex Blair, of Trentham, as best man, and Mr. John Al. Workman, of Gisborne, as groomsman. Messrs. Ray Higgins (Palmerston North) and Frank Coward (Dannevirke) were the ushers. As the bride and bridegroom left the church, little Rae Brown, cousin of the bride, presented her with a white horseshoe.
The reception following was held at the Jade tea-rooms, where the floral decorations were in harmonising tones of the flowers of the bridal party. Mr. and Mrs. Tily received tho guests, the latter wearing a distinctive frock of black georgette embossed in silver, a black velour hat and black accessories, also a sable cape, and she carried a posy of red carnations, berries and chrysanthemums. The bridegroom’s mother wore a frock of navy window georgette, a navy velour hat and navy coat, also a skunk fur, her posy being of scarlet carnations, chrysanthemums and maidenhair fern.
The usual felicitations were offered and toasts honoured, and when the bride and bridegroom left on their honeymoon on a tour of the north, the bride travelled in a smart ensemble of petrel blue, with a peach bloom bat and navy accessories, also a skunk stole, the gift of the bridegroom.
Mr. and Airs. AlcDonald will in future reside at Ruakitari, Hawke’s Bay.
