Eire’s Taxes Go Up

HIGH BORROWING CHARGES United Press Association.—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright. DUBLIN, May 10. In tho Dail to-day the Minister of Finance (Mr. Sean McEntee) introduced the Eire Budget. There is £1,169,000 in fresh taxation and the increases are: Income tax, by Is to 5s 6d in the £; petrol tax, of 2d; surtax, 10 to 15 per cent, according to incomes; tobacco duty, Sd a lb. The estimated revenue is £32,522,000 leaving a surplus of £II,OOO. Other figures of the Budget show a deficit of £527,000; revenue, £31,884,000; and expenditure, £33,110,000, of which £695,500 is chargeable to borrowing, the highest since Eire became self-govorn-ing.
