From Our Own Correspondent. The euchre and dance held on Friday .by the Ladies’ Basketball Club was well patronised and the club funds have bene lited considerably. The prize-winners for the card tournament were .Miss D. Chris tensen and Mr. F. Shailer, the consolations going to Miss C. Gates and Mr. W. Spicer. A cake competition was won by Mr. D. Williams. Music for dancing was supplied by Mr. T. Carter. Mr. J. Dench carried out the duties of M.C. and air. E. Ennis was doorkeeper. A spot waltz was won by Mr. and Mrs. Procter. The opening of tire local golf season was held over the week-end and. although fhd weather was overcast, playing conditions were perfect. Before commencing play, Mr. M. Moffat (president) welcomed the members of other clubs who wre present and thanked them for coming along. Mr. Moffat called on the patron of the club (Mr. A. T. Nichols) to drive the ball. The competition was mixed foursomes. At the end of play, afternoon tea was served in the clubhouse by Mrs. A. V. Nichc-fj and Mrs. E. Conlan, assisted by lady mein bers of the club. The winners of the competition were Mr. L. Shailer and partner. Visitors were present from Foxton, Hangi tikei, Palmerston North and Taumarunui. A meeting of the residents of the dis trict was held on Tuesday evening, presided over by Mr. Cameron, to finalise arrangements regarding alterations of the kitchen arrangements at the hall. Various suggestions were put forward and ii was decided to go straight ahead with the alterations. The present kitchen is to be made into a card and dressing room and a new kitchen is to be added to the side of the hali. A committee was appointed to order the timber, copper, etc. At a meeting- of the ladies on Friday afternoon it was decided to hold a “Paddy’s Market' at the end of June to raise funds towards the alterations to the hall. A generous response from residents has already been signified. Offers of goods and raffles augur well for the success of the function. The Taikorea basketball team played a match against the local team on Wednesday, the visitors winning by 18 goals to 13. Residents welcome Mr. and Mrs. Hedley and family to the district. Mr. Hedley has takeu over Mr. Oliver’s farm at I Himatangi. Mr. and Mrs. Smith and family are on a motor tour up north.
