Funeral of Major Jickell
WAR VETERANS PAY LAST RESPECTS A number of South African war veterans were amon gthose who paid tribute to the memory of Major Samuel Jickell, whose funeral took place in Palmerston North yesterday. The ceremony was a simple one. A short service was conducted by Canon G. Y. Woodward at All Saints' Church, following which the cortege proceeded to the Palmerston North cemetery where Canon Woodward conducted the graveside service and Lt. E. T. McKain sounded "The Last Post" and "Reveille. ’' The pall-bearers were Col. J. H. Whyte, Lt.-Col. A. Batchelar, Messrs. A. E. Hansford, J. R. Hardie, J. A. Nash and W. L. Fitzherbert. As well as a large number of private wreaths, were those sent by the South African veterans, Old Manawatu Mounted Rifles, Manawatu Mounted Rifles, Mayor, Councillors and official staff of the Palmerston North City Council, Manawatu Croquet Club, Palmerston North Operatic Society, Imperial Ex-Servicemen's Social Club and Major F. W. Garner.
