WOMEN’S INSTITUTE From Our Own Correspondent. In spite of the heavy rain on Thursday afternoon there was an average attendance at the monthly meeting of tho Women’s Institute. Mrs. Eising presided and welcomed a new member. Delegates nominated to attend the annual council mooting of the Bush District federation were Mesdames Eising and Holdaway. It was decided, if sufficient interest is shown, to form a Red Gross circle and a meeting is to be convened on May 1 lor tho purpose of ascertaining tho position and arranging for a start to be made in tho event of interest being shown. The first talk in the new series, “People and Customs of Other Lands,” was given by Mrs. G. Hoggard, her subjoct being Portugal. Tho motto was “Nothing great was ever achieved without enthusiasm.” Tea a. as served by the hostess, Mrs. Eising. Much interest was taken in the box lecture from the B.A.R. Home Science Extension, the subject of which was “How to conduct a business meeting. ’ ’ it was decided to postpone the May meeting one week until May 25 to enable members on holiday time to return. The president announced that the box lecture will bo flower and rock gardening and the competitions wholemeal scones and best bloom. Placings in tho competitions for tho afternoon, judged by Mrs. C. Holdaway and Mrs. P. Cope, were as follows:—Bottle of preserved fruit, Mrs. Eising 1 and 2, Mrs. H. J. Go wry 3; best bloom, Miss Sargent 1, Mrs. Eising 2, Mrs. Eddio 3. Personal. Miss D. Day has gone off to Gisborne, whore she is the guest of Mrs. Spence Holdaway. Visiting his mother at present is Mr. W. J. Sargent, Wellington.
