Mangamutu Tennis Club
OFFICIAL CLOSING DAY In spite of pouring rain a large crowd of members and visitors gathered in the club house during the week-end for the official closing of the Manga-mu-tu Tennis Club. A dainty afternoon tea was served by women members of the club, after which the president, Mr. J. G. Brechin, presented the trophies for 1938 and 1939, and declared the season officially closed. Mr. Brechin congratulated tho winners of the trophies and encouraged those who Had not been successful to further their efforts next season. He then presented the following trophies: 1938 Winners. Men’s senior championship: Mr. D. O ’Brien. Ladies’ senior championship: Miss N. Etz. Men’s junior championship: Mr. D. Bicknell. Ladies’ junior championship: Miss E. 0 ’Brien. 1939 Winners. Men’s senior championship: Mr. D. O ’Brien. Ladies’ senior championship: Miss K. O ’Brien. Men’s junior championship: Mr. S. Burgess. Ladies’ junior championship: Mrs. T. Burr. Schoolboys’ championship: Ray Sowry. Schoolgirls’ championship: Isobel Heayns. Mr. Brechin thanked the club members for the way they had worked iu bringing the club on, and paid a special tribute to the efficient work of tho secretary, Mrs. A. J. Morgan. Mr. L. Hamilton replied on behalf of the club members thanking Mr. Brechin for all he had done for the club.
