MAYORAL PLEASURE AT YEAR’S WORKING
The Mayor, Mr. R. R. Johnston, expressed satisfaction at the state of the borough finances at the council meeting
on Thursday evening, when the clerk, Mr. D. Keay, presented an abstract of the year’s working for perusal. This showed an increase in the council’s credit balance of £238 to £285. This, Mr. Johnston thought very pleasing and he added that they had been able also to cancel the overdraft as requested by the Audit Department in the face of a number of unexpected items. He thought it very satisfactory and said the borough was almost in “easy street. ” Cr. H. Galbraith pointed out that there was still a payment to be made from the balance to the contractor for i waterworks repairs. Of this the Mayor said he was aware and reiterated that the position was very satisfactory. A vote of thanks to the clerk for preparing the statement So promptly at a very busy time was passed.
