Mistaken Identity At Bow Street
ACCUSED NOT WOOLCOTT-FORBES (Independent Cable Service.) LONDON, April 3. Hyman Richard Diamond, who was charged at Bow Street on March 31 under the name of John WoolcottForbes with being a fugitive offender and with conspiring to defraud in Sydney, was discharged as a case of mistaken identity. Prominent Australians in London identified Diamond, and the police gave evidence that finger-prints showed that Diamond was not Wool-cott-Forbes. Woolcott-Forbes was arrested in Bombay in January and at the same time Douglas Jowett Bash was arrested at Brisbane and charged with conspiring with Woolcott-Forbei and others to defraud the Producers and General Finance Corporation and other persons of large sums of money. Woolcott-Forbes appeared on remand several times at Bombay, but on March 25 a warrant was issued for his arrest, as his whereabouts was unknown.
