Army Recruitments Progress Rapidly
RECORD R.A.F. ENLISTMENTS (British Official Wireless.) Received Tuesday, 6.20 p.m. LONDON, April 3. Four London units of the Territorial Army have reached their war establishment under the new scheme launched last week for doubling the Territorial Army. These units are now proceeding with recruiting for doubling their present strength and considerable progress has already been made in this direction. A total of 35,104 pilots, observers, airmen and boys joined the R.A.F. during the recruiting year ended March 31. This is more than double the total entry of the previous year and constitutes a record for 11.A.F, recruiting in peacetime.
Important air-raid precaution exercises will be carried out in Hampshire, Berkshire and Surrey during the first week in May with military and Air Force in co-operation. One object of the exercises will be to preserve a complete blackout at night throughout the whole area, which includes the Aldershot Command, Windsor Castle, and several factories in Reading industrial district.
