Curtailment in School Building Envisaged

MINISTER SAYS: “MILLIONS DON’T COME OUT OF THIN AIR” Per Press Association. HASTINGS, Last Night. “We cau go only as fast as the economic condition of the country will allow,” said the Minister of Education, lion. P. Fraser, when informing the Hawke’s Bay Education Board meeting to-day that there was a possibility that the school building programme might have to bo slightly curtailed in the future. “At the present there is a building programme involving millions t.o be faced, this in spite of what has already been done. “Millions, you know, cannot be conjured out of thin air. Patience is absolutely imperative,” said the Minister when appealing to the educational authoilties not to exaggerate the urgency of their problems. The Minister again spent a busy day visiting schools at Napier and Hastings and meeting deputations from school committees. He is expected to leave Hawke’s Bay to-morrow.
