Desertion From German Barque

Young Man to Appear in Court STILL ANOTHER DISAPPEARANCE . Per Press Association. NEW PLYMOUTH, Last Night. Desertion from the German training barque Commodore Johnsen will be charged at New Plymouth to-morrow against a young man described as a steward arrested at Lepperton to-day. By coincidence the German steamer Dortmund left New Plymouth for Auckland to-night without its messroom steward.

When the Commodore Johnsen left Auckland on February 11 it was reported that two members of the crew were missing. The man arrested to-day is alleged to be one of them. Gerhard Pasehumann, aged 23 or 24, was missing from the Dortmund from 2 p.m. to-day, and at 8.50 p.m. the vessel sailed without him. When the ship was at Lyttelton lie was admitted to hospital with a head injury and reached New Plymouth a day or two ago.
