Competitor of the Christmas Card
The Christinas caret has a serious modern competitor in the telegram. The special facilities provided by the Post Office for exchange of greetings at Christmas and New Year resulted in 410,450 of these messages being sent during the last festive season. That the fashion of using too telegraph for this purpose is growing is shown by the fact that the figures quoted are 29,938 in excess of those for the 1937-38 Christmas and New Year period. However, the Post Office does not limit the greetings telegram service to Christmas. All the year round it sends this class of telegram on aitractivelydesigued coloured forms enclosed in special decorative envelopes, and it appears to show some official recognition of the fact that Eastertime is wedding time, by including on the backs of the sending forms now distributed among the post offices samples of suitable greetings, seven of which are appropriate for weddings and show some originality in their composition.
