Awahuri
From Our Own Correspondent. There was an excellent attendance on Saturday evening, when the annual meeting of the Manawatu L.R.C. was held. Mr Carol! presided. Correspondence was read by Mr Bowater, who stated that branches were now going in for debates, one of which had been held In Feilding, when the younger folk had a ftve-a-side evening, and had shown a remarkable knowledge of the subject drawn. Many older people would have had difficulty In . coping with the exceller.- opinions expressed. Mr A. Bond, president of the Awahuri branch, extended a welcome to those present and expressed pleasure that the L.R.C. was held in Awahuri. It was a great help to realise that such enthusiasm was present in the Labour movement, and he was pleased to see such a large number of branches were represented. Recommendations of the executive committee were considered. The financial statement showed that the position was a sound one. Mr C. L. Hunter presided for the duration of the election. Mr Carroll, on vacating • the chair, said he wished to thank all delegates for their loyal support throughout the year. It had been a busy one and the harmony of the organisation had been of the best. He desired to thank Mr and Mrs Hunter for the services they had rendered and hoped the former would again contest ths seat in Manawatu. The party had made great progress, which was a . credit to all concerned, and it was definitely clear that the organisation was achieving greater heights than ever. Mr Carroll asked for the same support for his successor and recorded his appreciation to the officers of the L.R.C. On being reelected president. Mr Carroll (Glen Oroua) received an ovation. Mr McDonaud (Feilding) was elected vice-president: Mr Hurst (Ropgotea), secretary. Mr Bailey (Gleu Oroua). minute secretary; Mr McDonald, time-keeper, and Messrs Larsen and Bailey, trustees, 'rhe organising committee will remain as it is. pro tern. The * next L.R.C. meeting is to be held at Milton. The secretary was granted an honorarium. Mr Hunter offered congratulation* to Mr Carroll on being re elected president, and said he felt satisfied that the president would carrv out his duties faithfully and well. He added that he was certain that all other members elected would do all in their power In the interests of the Party. Supper was dispensed by members of the local branch. Personal and General. Mr C. Bryan, of Wellington, is the guest of his parents, Mr and Mrs W. Quite a number of residents are at present indisposed as the result of gastric flu’ or colds. During the L.R.C. meeting on Saturdav evening, irresponsible* threw stones oil the roof of the hall and Interfered with the motor vehicles. If there should he any future repetitions of this kind, the
culprits will find that It does not pay to act in this foolish manner. This is not the first, occasion on which it has hap pened, but it is hoped it will be the last.
