Government’s Willingness to Assist Local Bodies
MR. PARRY EN ROUTE TO MUNICIPAL CONFERENCE Per Press Association. WISLINGTON, Last Night. Aboard tho Rangatira to-night for Lyttelton is a number of northern delegates travelling to the aunaul conference of tho Municipal Association to bo opened at Dunedin on Wednesday morning. Among them is the Alinister of Internal Affairs, Hon. W. E. Parry, who is to deliver the opening address of the conference. Air. Parry said that from the agenda paper there were as was customary at these conferences a number of interesting and well-thought-out recommendations to bo discussed. “The development of tho country is ever going forward,” tho Minister stated, “and local governing bodies have necessarily to be alert and active in playing their part, which is large and of importance to the Dominion. Every remit that carries tho majority approval oL’ the delegates will bo thoroughly and helpfully considered by the Government.” The Alinister added that ho was in a happy position in being able to attend the conference without Governmental or political timidity, becauso many of its recommendations over the past two or three years had been ratified by the Government and passed by Parlianrent into Statute law.
