Pahiatua Bowlers

BYRNE CUP LOST During the week-end three matches were played with visiting teams by the Pahiatua Bowling Club. An Eketahuna team comprising Tolley, Herbert, Fredrickson and Simpson made a successful challenge for the Byrne Cup, defeating the Pahiatua team, Gregory, Carrad, Britland and Kershaw, 17—16. Pahiatua (Truscott, Sedcole, Davey and Pilkinton) easily withstood a challenge from Eketahuna (Pickering, Murray, Stone and Hornblow) for the Gosling Stars, winning by 32 to 6. Two teams from Eketahuna visited Pahiatua on Saturday to play for the Oxley Cup, the result being a draw on heads, which was not played off. Scores were as follow: Pahiatua (Macrae, Scott, Cosford, Petersen) 29, Eketahuna (Green, Maudesley, Amundsen, Hooper) 17. Pajiiatua (Ross, Badger, Clarke, P. Bisset) 18, Eketahuna (Green, Smith, Payne, Rodgers) 21. Playing on Saturday in a match for Manawatu against Wairarapa a rink of Pahiatua bowlers (Goer, Murphy, Walsh and Hodd, sqip) defeated Carterton 25 to 13. In the second game Pahiatua defeated Masterton Park 32 to 11. Manawatu won the match by 782 points to 629.
