Obituary

MBS. J. FLAVALL, OF FEILDING There passed away at Palmerston North on Friday last Mrs. Jane Flavall, mother of Mr. Frederick Flavall, of North Road, Feilding, and a settler of the Dominion for over half a century. Born in Castlecary, Somersetshire, deceased was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Lancelot Clotheir, and came to New Zealand to live with her sister, the late Mrs. Edward Giles, of Kaiapoi, 53 years ago. Mr. Flavall predeceased his wife some 20 years ago, and there was only one child of the marriage. Mrs. Flavall had been a hard worker, and in this connection her onerous tasks of earning her livelihood were made easier by the spiritual uplift she obtained in her active church work and Christian actions. Before coming to the Dominion she was a Sunday school teacher in the Congregational Church, while since coming to New Zealand she had been actively engaged in similar work in connection with the Methodist Church and even in her declining years she attended church twice every Sunday with her son. Her supreme delight and interest lay in the teaching of the Christian faith, and her practical testimony of Christian work was an inspiration to those with whom she associated. Mrs. Flavall was a devout worshipper, and the light which shone and made her life a peaceful and contented one was radiated amongst others who followed her example of faith and love. To mourn her passing, Mrs. Flavall leaves one son and five grandchildren. The funeral took place on Sunday from the son’s residence, North Koad. The Rev. J. H. Allen conducted tho service at the house and again at the cemetery. The pall-bearers were the son, Fred, three grandsons, Kex, Jack and Kelvin, and Messrs. G. McVicar and N. Gill. Many floral tributes wore received in testimony of respect for a good Christian lady.
