Radio Telephone Used From Pahiatua
CALL MADE TO ENGLAND Use was made from Pahiatua on Tuesday of the radio telephone service to England, when a visitor to Pahiatua, Mrs. M. Hall, a niece of Mr. J. J. Boagey, Tyndall Street, was able to send greetings by word of mouth to her two daughters at Sutton, Coldfield, near Birmingham, England. Although the combination of several separate services were involved in the call, reception was excellent, every word being heard quite distinctly. The call involved connections between Pahiatua and Wellington, the message thence going via Australia to England by wireless. TWO YEARS SINCE LAST CALL It is exactly two years since the last radio telephone call to England weat through the Pahiatua exchange, the circumstances being very much the same as the recent one. In this case, Mr. J. Franks, the father of Mrs. Hall, put the call through to the two girls. Mrs. Hall commented favourably on the care and courtesy of the Post Office staff on this occasion, remarking that they put the call through with the minimum of trouble. In order to make certain of the best j possible reception, a new telephone was I installed for the occasion in Mr. Boagey 's house.
