Caledonian Sports at Feilding
NATIONAL ATHLETES TO COMPETE TWO DAYS’ GATHERING AT * AT KOWHAI PARK Not since the settlement of Feilding, when such events created countrywide interest, has a major athletic meeting been staged in the town, and the Feilding Caledonian Pipe Band Committee is to be congratulated upon its enterprise in launching a two-days sports gathering to be held on Kowhai Park on Saturday and Monday next. The public are assured of the very best competition in both track and Highland dancing events. R. Ulmer, of Wellington, national champion cyclist and recordholder, is billed to appear on both days. Other crack cyclists include M. Green (Auckland), Detton and Loader (Wellington), Allen (Feilding) and others well to the fore in the cycling world. In the running events, Morley, the youthful athlete from Hawke’s Bay, will be seen in action. J. Annear, University crack, of Wellington, and Terry McCashin, also of Wellington will also make their appearance on the Feilding track. The committee state that the events will be run to time and arrangements have been made for the majority of the events to be completed in time to suit the convenience of country visitors.
Pipers and dancers from throughout the North Island have signified their intention of being present and this feature of the programme will probably constitute a record representation of kilted performers at a Caledonian sports meeting. A Highland Pipe Band has been engaged to attend Monday’s gathering and will give performances throughout the proceedings.
