Friendly Societies Were Taken Into Confidence
MINISTER SAYS INGLEWOOD REPORT NOT COMPLETE Per Press Association. HAMILTON, Last Night. Hon. W. Lee Martin (Minister in Charge of the Friendly Societies Department) has supplied- the followirg statement:— “With reference to the report in to-day’s papers of my meeting at Inglewood with representatives of Friendly Societies, the report omits to state that I explained that delegates from the Friendly Societies' Dominion Conference had met Hon. W. Nash, Hon. P. Fraser and myself during the passago of the Social Security Bill. A list of questions was submitted and all were answered to the satisfaction of the dolegates, who after reporting to their conference came back and asked for further information on two points which they regarded as of great importance. Mr. Nash said that, as these points involved financial obligations, he would require time to look into them, but assured them that the Government would endeavour to meet all difficulties so as to enable the societies to continue to extend their work. His request was considered reasonable and members of the deputation remarked that a littla delay would enable them to give the schme further consideration. “The supplying of tho information was a confidential matter between Air.
