Counties Joined by Tunnel Under Thames
TASK OF AMAZING EXACTITUDE COMPLETED (British Official Wireless.) Received Thursday, 7 p.m. RUGBY, Oct. 5. Pilot boring of the Dartford to Purfleet tunnel under the Thames which will join the counties of Essex and Kent, was completed yesterday when the last five feet curtain of chalk was broken. There was an error of only threeeighths of an inch in the line and threesixteenth of an inch in tho level of the tunnel when the two borings from the Essex and Kent sides met. The total length of the pilot tunnel is 2832 feet.
