Manchester Street School Committee

The Mancnester Street School committee, Feilding, met on Monday night, Mr. J. G. Fitzpatrick (chairman) presiding. There were also present Messrs. P. Maegaard, Z. McLeoo, J. Campbell, F. J. Gaze (headmaster) and Mrs. P. G. Guy. The headmaster reported the roll at 380, with the school attendance back to normal. Sickness had effected the teaching staff, one teacher was away at present through illness and one, Miss Fieckert, was absent attending an examination. A relieving teacher had been appointed. The school medical officer had visited the school during the month and had examined the pupils. Those selected for the health camp had been endorsed by the health officer.

A letter from the Health Department slated arrangements had been made for a supply of milk to the school, one naif-pint per child per day, and this would be in operation by the middle cf the month. It was expected it would effect a much-needed improvement in the children's general health. The milk would be pasteurised and would come from Massey College. The chairman reported that he had attended a meeting of the dental clinic, when it had .been decided to proceed with the erection of a new clinic

building in a section in Stafford Street. The section would cost £SO and this sum had been donated by local people. It had been estimated that the building would cost £SOO, but that estimate was based on costs of about two or three years ago. It had since been ascertained that the cost would be about £SOO. Towards this the Government would pay two-thirds. This meant that the school committees would require to find close on £3OO between them. The chairman estimated that the Manchester Street committee would be asked to raise £7O or £BO of this. The whole matter would bo before them later.

The headmaster reported that the quad concert had been the means of raising £2B 6s, and this money had been used to purchase the most complete duplicator on the market. This very efficient machine was now in use and was a valuable acquisition to the school.

The headmaster reported on a scheme for extending visual education in Feilding with the co-operation of Mr. Somerset and all the schools. The scheme meant some outlay, but this could be managed. The whole matter would be further examined in the near future.

The headmaster reported that the flower day effort had resulted in the sum of £l3 being raised for special funds.
