Sir H. Beauchamp Dies

MANY INTERESTS IN FINANCIAL LIFE OF DOMINION Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, Oct. 5. The death has taken place of Sis Harold Beauchamp. Sir Harold Beauchamp was Of Aut» tralian birth, and was the eldest surviving son of Mr Arthur Beauchamp, who represented Picton and Sounds in the House of Representatives, and prior to that time was a member ot the Provincial Council of the district rhe late Sir Harold was educated at the Wanganui Collegiate SchOol. He came to New Zealand from Vic- j loria in 1861 and commenced his busi- j ness career in Wellington in 1876. He was a director of the Bank of New Zealand for 36 years, and chairman for 16 years, being a Government appointee to the institution in 1898. He was director of the A.M.P. Society for 21 years, and for some time was chairman, retiring in 1936 from that board. He held manifold other interests in the financial life of the country, and in January, 1923, was created a Knight Bachelor, in recognition of his distinguisned public services, particularly in connection with finance. He is survived by his wife and three daughters. His only son, Second--1 ioutenant L. H. Beauchamp was killed in Flanders, in Octc-ber, 1915. At the time of his death Sir Harold was 79 years old.
