The pincer movement against Hankow is making steady progress. Three forces are converging on the city from the south-east, while other forces are advancing from the north. The Chinese, who are forming a new defence line south of Mahulling, admit a desperate attempt against the Japanese flank was In vain. The Japanese claim not only to have shattered Hankow’s outer defences but to have broken the inner line at three points. JAPS BRING DOWN ANOTHER AIR LINER COMPANY SUSPENDS BERVIOB Received Thursday, 12.10 a.m. SHANGHAI, Sept. 7. Japanese planes shot down another Eurasia air liner south-west of Hankow. Only the pilot was aboard. The Japanese declare they were not informed of the plane’s movements and are therefore not responsible. The Eurasia Company has announced that it is suspending services indefinitely. Chinese Defences Fall NEW LINE FORMED IN KIUKIANGNANCHANG AREA HANKOW, Sept. 6. The Chinese defences on the mountain railway between Kiukiang and Nanchang have collapsed and a new line is being formed south of Mahuiling in order to guard Teian. The press hails the Ambassadorial appointment of General Yintse to Mo»cow as initiating permanent co-opera-tion between Russia and China.
