Electric Services Held Up
POWER FAILURES IN WELLINGTON Per Fress Association. WELLINGTON, Last Night. Trams, trains, lifts and all services relying on direct electric current were halted i,n Wellington to-day for several minutes shortly after 1.30 and again a few minutes later, as happened a week or two ago. The fault was far away up the line in the Urcwera country and temporarily cut off the electric power supply in Wellington The source of to-day’s trouble was a blow-out of an 11,000 brush at Tuai electric ower station, Waikaremoana. The *bjoyv-out caused a surge of power through the inter-linked systems of the North Island and in Wellington it had the offect of cutting out the rotary condensers and shutting off direct power, lifts were suddenly frozen where they wero to the indignation of business people returning to their offices from lunch. The services wero soon resumed, but a quarter of an hour later they came to a second full stop, for a slightly longer period this time. However, they resumed their normal operations for the rest of tho day.
