PALMERSTON NORTH’S NEW RADIO STATION WORKING IN WITH THE COMAIUNITY From Our Own Correspondent. WELLINGTON, Last Night. Cabinet’s decision that u commercial radio station should be established in the city of Palmerston North is the result of a survey taken some time ago of the potentialities of the city and district so far as commercial broadcasting is concerned. The immediate service, will be four hours daily, seven days in the week (from G to 10 p.m.) and the programme will be entirely local, unless there are special features on 2ZB. The idea is to have the station with an identity all its own, growing with the city in popularity, when the hours will be increased till eventually there will be a full-time service. A land line will be provided to relay the special features from 2ZB. It will be the policy of the controller to encourage all local talent and every opportunity will be given to amateurs to share their gifts with tho listeners generally. Tho policy will be to promote and assist every worthy local cause that may be espoused by responsible citizens. Every endeavour will be made for the station to become a integral part of tho social life of tho city. There are a number of details yet to be finalised, but tho station will probably be of 200 watts power and its location will be determined in the course of the next few days. It is hoped to have it in operation within a month.
