New Meat Regulations
BILL BEFORE HOUSE Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, Last Night. The Slaughter of Stock and Inspection of Meat Bill, which was introduced at the end of last session of Parliament in March in order that it might be circulated to interested parties, again made its appearance in the House today, when it was re-introduced by Governor-General's message. No new provisions are included in the measure, which is in exactly the same form as when it first came before the House. The Bill is a complete reconstruction rather than a consolidation of the Acts dealing with tho establishment of municipal abbatoirs, the licensing of meat for export and other slaughterhouses, the slaughter of stock, the insx>cction of meat intended for consumption and the exxiort of meat from New Zealand. One clause of importance is designed to prevent undue competition between licensees of meat export slaughterhouses and butchers by prohibiting the retail sale of meat from meat export slaughterhouses except to employees and to persons on whose behalf stock is regularly slaughtered.
The Bill was read a first time and also a second time pro forma and referred to the Agricultural and Pastoral Committee.
