Training Run Ends Fatally
Boy Knocked Down by Car
MISHAP ON FOXTON LINE A training run undertaken last even ing by four Foxtou boys in preparation for a boxing tournament ended fatal-lv when one of the party, a boy of about 12 years of ago named Eagle, was struck by a car and received severe in jury, from which lio later succumbed in the Palmerston North Hospital.
The accident occurred about two miles north of Foxtou on tho FoxtonHimatangi line at somewhere near 6.30 p.m. Dusk had just fallen and the boys were proceeding at a jog trot in tho direction of Foxton. The car was driven by Mr. W. Hines, of Bainesse, who was swerving to make a clear run for a car approucking from the oppositedirection. Jn doing so * t knocked Eaglo to the ground. The boy was attended by Dr. Crawford, of Foxton, and was taken by Free Ambulanco to the Palmerston North Hospital. It is understood that he suffered a fracture to the base of the skull, a broken thigh bone and a broken shin bone. At 9.30 p.m. he had not regained consciousness and his condition was regarded as very serious. He passed away at 9.45.
