PIANO GROUP’S FINAL EVENING The pianoforte group of tho Mana watu branch of the British Music Society held their final gathering, for the -if ut veL'donee of Mr. and Mrs. F J. Oakley, Rainl’orth street, last ovening when under tho direction of Miss Beryl Oakley (convener) a varied programme was enjoyed. Tho rooms were gay with spring flowers and in addition to the performers there were present Mesdames N. D. Stubbs, F. C Ebbett (Pahiatua), R. M. McDonald (Wairoa), H. Pierard, G. Clark, Miss M. Oakley and Mr. A. G. Pierard. The pianoforte solos were as follow. “Jcsu Joy of Man’s Desiring” (Bach), Mies B. Oakley; “Sonata in D, Presto” (Beethoven), “Melody” (Oliver King), “Allegretto Besoluto” (Stox>heu Heller), Miss Joyce Ebbett; “Staccato Caprice” (Max Vogrich), Miss Lola Buick; “Gavotte” (Gluck), arr. by Brahms, Mr. B. H. Pierard; “Song Without Words, No. 4” (Mendelssohn), Mrs. J. Riddle; “Noctiome in R” (Chopin), Mrs. H. D. Howley In addition Miss L. McDonald sang “Sweet Melodies” and “Sapphic Ode” (Brahms); Miss Ruth Oakley recited “Tho Day is Done” (Longfellow), and Dr. F. H. McDowell gave an interesting talk on “Chamber Music.” Mrs. I. K. Rickard was the * accompanist.

Miss Oakley handed in her resignation as convener in view of the fact that she is going to the Sydney Conscrvatorium early next year, members accepting the resignation with regret.

Supper was servod at tho conclusion of the programme.
