Shipping Hold-up On Pacific Coast

HARRY BRIDGES AGAIN BUSY United Press Association.—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright. Received Monday, 8.55 p.m. SAN FRANCISCO, Aug. 29. This week will probably decide whether San Francisco shipping is to be held up on the same scale as 193*6. A dozen critical Labour conferences are scheduled and Harry Bridges has taken charge of the workers’ fight. The situation is made more serious by growing fears of a break between the longshoremen and ship-owners. The Pacific Maritime Federation formed by Bridges to organise a united front against the ship-owners declares that the ship-owners are attempting to split the federation by delaying the renewal of contracts.
