In-lamb Ewe Market Brighter

FIRM TONE IN OTHER MOTIONS

With the exception of the brighter tone in the store sheep section for the in-lamb ewe yesterday's Feilding livestock sale reflected no variation of any consequence on late rates. Waikato buyers contributed to the competition for the best of the store ewes and the special offering on account of the Cheltenham breeder made a very good sale. Very few hoggets were offering and the quality was not as good as that prevailing last week. The fat sheep market was, comparatively speaking, generally steady. There was a slight easing in the case of ewe mutton, although for the tops values were rougd about last week’s quotations. Beef, Btore and dairy cattle sold at late rates.

A fairly large offering of fat sheep included close on 500 head of fat ewes which found the market quite firm fot the tops and slightly easier for those not showing so much condition. For a pen of 14 good woolled sheep offered on account of R. Rutledge, 20s Just over 100 head of ewes drafted as to quality, were submitted on account of L. B. and E. Woodruffe. The tops, numbering 34, realised 19s 9d and a pen of 20 made 19s, while 18 sold for 18s 6d. The balance, sold in four lots, realised 16s sd.

On account of E. P. C. Swainson, & pen of 39 realised I.Ba BcL The pen of 59 submitted in the name of A. Stuart realised ISs 4d. Bussell Bros, obtained 17s 2d for an offering of 23 ewes. Yarded on account of S. H. Lodge, a pen. of 14 sold, at 15s and a further 11 realised 12s.

A pen of 60 offered on account of R» MacDonald made 17a 34, and a further 12 made 16s.

W. T. Craine ; § offering of 28 sold at 16s Sd.

The offering of 06 on account of the Short estate realised 14s Id. From Kiwi tea a line of 11 on aoeount of F. O. Stack realised 17a Id. For the offering of 150 head offered on account of H. Ellery 16e 0d and 16s 7d was paid.

Very few hoggets were offering and these sold according to quality.

A line of 21 offered on account of D. P. Buchanan realised 20s. Good firm medium-quality lambs. The offering of 13 on account of R. Rutledge was quite a fresh line of good meat quality and these made 21s. On the same account a further eight realised 17s 2d, and another pen of 10 realised 17s Id.

For an offering of 28 A. B. Buchanan obtained 20s.

Just over 150 head in three pens yarded on account of Mrs. A. Beazer sold from 16s 7d, 16s 9d to 17s 9<L Prices for wether mutton showed little variation on late rates. The yarding was largely of medium quality lots, with very few outstanding pens. D. W .Reid ’s entry of 17 good wethers in good condition realised 27s 6d.

A small line of seven attractive wethers from Taonui changed hands at 26s 2d.

A mixed pen of 13 ewes and wethers of medium quality offered on account of H. Ellerv sold at 24s 2d.

On account of W. C. Small a pen of good skinned wethers changed hands at 1 255. Drafted into five pens, an offering of SO wethers of mixed quality submitted

on account of the Managh estate sold as follows:—21 at 23s 4d, 12 at 235, 12 at 25s Bd, 18 at 20s 6d and 10 at 22s 7d. On the same account 20 blackfaces sold from 24s 9d to 255.

The presence of buyers from the Waikato made for the competition for the in-lamb ewe in the store sheep section. The offering of this class of sheep was largely made up of a special entry on account of H. B. Johnston, of Cheltenham. The entry of this breeder numbered just over 400 head and was sold in lots according to ago, the average price being slightly over 275. The prices realised were as follow: 4-ths, 35s Id; 6-ths, 30s; 4-yr, 295; 5-yr, 25s lOd; 6-yr, 21s lOd to 23s 7d; s.m., 22s lOd.

On account of C. H. Leicester a pen of 62 6-th to 4 and 5-yr ewos realised 25s lOd.

A pen of 49 mixed aged ewes with a good percentage of young sheep, yarded on account of a Colyton breeder, realised 30s 2d.

On account of B. McLeod an offering of 118 2-th owes realised 30s. A. F. Lawrie received 31s 6d for his offering of 68 2-ths. Waituna 2-ths yarded on account of C. H. Leicester and numbering 133 realised 30s 6d.

Five-year ew©6 numbering 94, from the Pohangina Valley, realised 21s. Hoggets were not very plentiful and the business was fairly firm for the best of the offering. For a pen of wether lambs offered on account of W. McAvoy 18s 8d was paid. Other lines of wether hoggets realised 15s 3d for 69 and 16s 7d for a pen of 143.

A. Gee’s offering of 34 wether lambs made 15s 2d. Small blackface lambs from Rewa sold at 10s Id and other lines of blackface hoggets made from 14s 7d to 16s 6d. For a small pen of ewe lambs not too well grown 20s 4d was paid. R. S. Wall’s offering of 14 wethers realised 22s 3d.

A pen of seven wethers offered on account of the Feilding Agricultural High School sold at 21s. For a pen of 21 wethers A. M. Henson received 25s 6d. Maiden ewes on the same account realised like money.

R. W. Humphrey’s yarding of wethers realised 23s 9d.

For tho pen of ten maiden ewes submitted on account of A. Stuart 19s 6d was paid.

Values for the best of the ox beef offering showed no variation on last week’s rates. Ex dairy sorts found the market firm and the wholo of the offering was disposed of under the hammer. Four young bullocks of good weights, offered on account of R. Wall, realised £lO.

A line of 13 mixed quality bullocks submitted on account of P. Whiteman, of Aorangi, sold as follows: Seven at £8 12s 6d, two at £9 10s, two at £6 15s, and two at £6 ss.

Other offerings of medium quality bullocks sold from £7, £7 10s to £7 15s. Four Hereford heifers offered on account of F. Russell realised £7 7s 6d.

Aberdeen Angus cows numbering seven, submitted on account of M. McCool, realised £6 2s 6d. Prices received for the Hereford cows offered on account of JMair Bros., of Lee’s line, realised as follow: £5 15s, £7 10s to £7 12s Gd. On account of F. J. Russell seven Hereford cows realised as follow: £6 12s 6d, £8 to £S os. Other fat cattle quotations were as follow: Cows, £3 10s, £3 15s, £4 2s 6d, £4 ss, £4 10s, £4 12s 6d, £4 17s 6*d, £5 15s, £5 17s Gd, £6 7s Gd, £G 12s 6d, £6 15s, £6 17s Gd, £7 ss, £7 12s 7d to £S 15s; heifers, £3 12s Gd, £5 7s 6d to £6 ss; vealer, 32s Gd. The storo cattle yarding was made up principally of boner cows of medium quality, with a limited offering of empty heifers and odd lots of weaner steers and heifers. Quotations were as follow: Cows, £2 10s, £3, £3 Is, £3 4s, I £3 ss, £3 7s, £3 7s 6d, £3 12s 6d, £3 15s; cows and calves, £5 3s; empty heifers, £1 10s, £2 17s 6d, £3 ss, £3 10s to £3 12s 6d; low conditioned weaner steers. 28s; weaner heifers, £3 18s.

Entries were not so numerous in the dairy cattle section although there was a firm inquiry for close to profit lots of good quality. The following were the quotations: Bpringing heifers, £5 ss, £6, £6 10s, £7 2s 6d, £8 12s 6d, £9 12s 6d to £lO 2s 6d; springing cows, £5, £5 10s £5 Iss, £6 ss, £7 10s, £8 ss, £9 to £9 ss; heifers in milk, £4 to £4 ss; cows in milk, £3, £5, £5 10s, £6 to £B.
