From Our Own Correspondent. Valadictory. The Linton hall was packed on Friday night last, the occasion being a farewell social arranged by the settlers for Mr and Mrs C. Terry and family on the eve of their departure to make their new home in Palmerston North. The district will lose an energetic family of workers for its welfare, Mrs Terry being a member of the W.L committee, garden circle, and St. Columbo’s Church committee. Mr Terry has served on the school committee and is a member of the hall committee. On behalf of the garden circle members, Mrs. A. Batchelar presented Mrs Terry* with a posy, the work of Mesdames Moyes and Irvine. Songs were rendered by Miss es Monica and Ngaire Lynch, and a set of Lancers (1884) were danced in the costumes of that period by members of the W.I. Those taking part were Mesdames Moyes, T. Lynch, Algie. Waterson, Nash, J. Lynch, Gilland and Miss Young. Mr Jos. Batchelar, on behalf of the residents of the district, spoke of the regret felt by all at the departure of Mr and Mrs Terry' and stressed the popularity of the guests of honour and their many kindly thoughts and deeds. He wished them all good things for the future and asked Mr and Mrs Terry to accept a chiming clock and set of table silver, as a token of the respect and esteem in which they were held. They were then accorded musical honours. Mr Terry suitably respondedHe said he hoped to welcome ail thc/ir friends at their future home in Palmerston North. Supper was served under the supervision of Mesdames A. Currin, Irvine, Miss Young and helpers. Dancing was continued until a late hour, Mr J. Batchelar being M.C. Novelty dances were won by Miss Judd and Mr R. Batchelar, and Miss Mary Lynch and Mr Peter Beech (Pahiatua). Rifle Shooting. Ralfe 121; total Tepuna: O. Terry 135, R. Craw 128, G. I Merriraon 128, L. Wilson 134; total 625. Linton was again successful in the match with Aokautere, the scores being: Linton A. 1055, Aokautere A 1042; Linton B, 77?, Aokautere B, 760. Personal. Mr Oswald Batchelar is holidaying in Auckland. , Mr and Mrs C. Terry are having three weeks' holiday in the North before taking up their residence in Palmerston North. Mrs 3. Irvine is visiting relatives in Nelson. Mr and Mrs M. Rix are spending a holiday in Napier. Mrs D. Currin and Mrs T. Lynch were visitors to Wellington for tho W.I. conference. Young Farmers' Club. The Fltzherbert Young Farmers’ Club held its monthly meeting on Tuesday. A debate was held with the Kairanga Young Farmers' Club, the subject being "That farming to-day is more difficult than fifty years ago." The Kairanga speakers (affirmative) were Messrs Chryetal (leader). Gaiford and Rowlands, and the local speakers (negative), were Messrs Woodley (leader), Lynch and Sleight. The Fitzherbert team won by 223 points to 199, out of a possible of 340. Tho Judge, Mr J.'A. Edwards, of Palmerston North, congratulated both sides on tHWr good team work, and pointed out the mistakes. Tho Kairanga Club invited the local team to attend their meeting and to have a friendly debate.
