From Our Own Correspondent. ! The monthly meeting of the YoulTg Farmers* Club was held last Wednesday evening. An interesting lecture was given by Mr Elphick on diseases in live stock, his address being illustrated with lantern slide*. The speaker was accorded a hearty i vote of thanks at the conclusion of his talk. Mr K. Cotton reported on the field day held at Levin and thanked Mr C. V. Smith for bis donation towards club expenses. ! Severe wintry conditions prevailed over the week-end making golflnd unpleasant Nevertheless, the mixed foursome was Ji success, Mrs J. P. Connell and Mr E. Conlan winning the prizes. The men’s stable ford bogey was won b.v Alan Veaie. The weekly meeting of the local branch of the W.E.A. was held in the school, * Mias M. G. Francis presiding. During the first part of the evening Mr Sim, assisted by Master K. Sim, showed three interesting films of Soviet Russia. Mr Geo. S. Francis opened the discussion on “The Powers of the Mediterranean,” by first referring to the ancient history of the sea and how the peoples of tho6e days used ths sea as a means of power. Corning! down to later days he showed how Britain's control of tho Mediterranean brought Napoleon’s career to a close. At tho present time the aim of Italy is to

make the sea an Italian lake, whereas Britain's idea Is to keep it as an open highway' for all nations of the world. An interesting debate followed.
