Inter-School Football

WIN FOR LEVIN HIGH SCHOOL It was very cold and drizzling, but the ground was fast for the Rugby football match between tho Levin High School first fifteen and the Palmerston North Boys’ High School second fifteen at the Showgrounds yesterday. It was a very good game and the decision was in doubt right to the very end. Levin won by 10 points to nine. Sloan was the best of the Levin team and scored the ten points. His first try resulted from his cutting clean through the Palmerston North backs after a Levin forward passed out from a loose ruck. Later Sloan again ran through the Palmerston North team outpaced all opposition and scored between the posts. He converted both tries. Mullin scored for Palmerston North when he followed up a kick by Duncalf. Mutch got the leather away from the base of a scrum and sent it out to Duncalf, who transferred to Hardie, and it went on to Mullin, but it was held up between him and Lawlor. Palmerston North were awarded a penalty and Davies put the ball out in the corner. Dale wriggled through to score. The third try for Palmerston North came when Lawlor cut through from a ruck and scored near the corner. All three tries were unconverted. Palmerston NoTth attacked very hard in the last few minutes, but failed to add to their account. Mutch, the diminutive Palmerston North half back, was quick on attack and resourceful on defence. He sent well-directed passes away smartly from the scrum and seemed always to be in the thick of it. In a year or two he should be an acquisition to tho first fifteen. Duncalf, Hardie, Mullin, Lawlor and Nash also played well and it is evident that several from the ranks of the second fifteen, although light, will help to build a strong first fifteen next year. Mr. C. Taylor was the referee.
