Feilding Railway Returns
QUIET PERIOD RECORDED A generally quiet period is revealed in the Feilding railway returns for the four-weekly period ending July 30. Compared with the same four weeks last year iecreases are recorded under almost every heading, while the total revenue showed a drop of £I2OO. The decrease in passengers carried is largely accounted for by the fact that at this period last year trial matches were being played in connection with the visit of the Springboks and many patrons from Feilding mado trips to the city and to Auckland to see the games. In tho case of cattle and sheep the decrease in the numbers handled, both inwards and outwards, is accounted for by the varying weather conditions as well as the facial eczema scourge. Normally there is a large influx of sheep and cattle from the Hawke’s Bay at this period but as an abundance of rain has been experienced on the East Coast the need for shifting stock to the West Coast did not arise. Facial eczema tended to place a definite check on the movement of sheep, while tho store cattle market has boen generally very quiet. For the following statistics regarding Feilding 7 s railway business 4 ‘The Times” is indebted to the stationmaster, Mr. D. Finlay. Outwards. Passengers, 1180 (1348); cattle and calves, 948 (1553); sheep, 9721 (15,365); goods tonnage, 772 (1118); passenger revenue, £397 (£549); parcels revenue, £4O (£42); goods revenue, £1649 (£2258); miscellaneous revenue, £25 (£37); total revenue, £2lll (£2886).
