Staff Reductions

Effects of Overseas Competition

100 TO BE PUT OFF FROM OLOTHINa FACTORY

Per Press Association.

AUCKLAND, Last Night.

Because of slackness in orders which it attributes to the effects of overseas competition, one large Auckland clothing manufacturing firm last week put off 16 hands and announces that within the next few days the number it proposes to discharge will be brought up to about 100.

“As the work upon which we are now engaged finishes up, we are putting off girls,” said representatives of tho concern. “We have made every endeavour to hold our staff together, but we are forced to make dismissals.”
