For driving a motor-car over a railway level crossing at Taonui when tho line was not clear, G. H. Lind, of Taonui, was convicted and fined 10s and costs 10s by Mr. R. M. Matson, S.M., at the Feilding Magistrate’s Court yesterday. The defendant wrote admitting the offence, but stated that the train was at the station and he felt that he had plenty of time to cross. The train was quite 40 yards away when he crossed over. The police evidence was to the effect that the train was moving and only 20 yards off when defendant drove over.

On a charge of allowing stock to wander on tho highway, Mrs. A. Sutherland was convicted and fined 30s at the Feilding Magistrate’s Court yesterday and ordered to pay .costs amounting to 19s 6d. Mr. G. Kun Lee, a resident of Feilding for many years, who has been on a prolonged visit to his home country, has returned to reopen the business formerly carried on in Manchester street. Mr. Ivee, who was born in Canton, stated yesterday that conditions were very bad in China, but the people were confident of ultimate victory against the forces of Japan.
