Assembly Hall for Lytton Street School

PARENTS’ ASSOCIATION OBJECTIVE At the meeting of the Lytton Street School Parents’ Association on Monday evening Mr. C. V. Jewell proposed *~at the association, which had done considerable work towards raising funds for the school, should give consideration to the question of working for the building of an assembly hall. He suggested that the association should set aside each year a sum of money for this purpose and proposed that an Old Pupils’ Association be formed with the o. ject of obtaining the assistance of all expupils of tho school towards the attainment of the objective. Mr. T. Donaldson (chairman), while expressing agreement with the idea of a wider scheme of activity on the part of tho association, felt that the building of an assembly hall was a matter for the Education Department.

ML Jewell said that tho Department would no doubt provide a subsidy ou the money raised for such a purpose, but lie doubted if they would moot the whole cost.

The headmaster (Mr. M. H. Smith) supported the scheme, being of the opinion that an assembly hall was a vital necessity at a school, not only for assembly purposes, but for organised drill, concerts, music instruction, eurhythmies and other modern educational ideas.

It was decided to refer the question to the annual meeting for consideration, whilo Mr. George Wilkinson undertook to press the matter of the formation of an old pupils’ association.
