Mrs A. Price presided over a fair attendance at the July meeting of the W.D.F.U. on Wednesday last. Mesdames Price and Tompkins, who were delegates to the Dominion conference, presented full reports of the proceedings. It was decided to form a play-reading circle, Che first reading to be given at the September meeting. For the August meeting there will be a dressmaking box lecture, and the roll call will be "The best spring cleaning hint.” Afternoon tea brought a pleasant meeting to a close. Card Tournament. The first of a series of weekly euchre tournaments, in aid of the Anglican Church, was held last Tuesday evening at the residence of Mr and Mrs H. S. Harris. Mrs A. Price and Mr A. James proved to bo the prize-winners. A cordial invitation is extended to any of the public who care to attend these evenings, which will be held for six successive weeks, each Tuesday evening. Wairakei Defence Riffs Club. The second of two shoots for a trophy, presented by Mr J. Carey, was held on Saturday, when the highest aggregate score was secured by K. Carey. The individual scores were as follow: K. Carey 202, C. Moess 201, W. Hyde 199, R. Thompson 198, A. R. Kirton 197, J. Carey 193, R. Kronast 193, J. Thompson 190, S. M. Meads 188, J. T. Boshler IS 4. Football Club Ball. The annual ball of the Football Club was held on Friday evening and despite inclement weather and the prevalence of influenza, proved enjoyable and successful. The hall had been decorated with multi-coloured streamers and greenery, the windows all having gay boxes of flowers. The stage was decorated with the club's colours, black and white. The supper and music helped towards the general succss of the evening.
