From Our Own Correspondent. Euchre and Dance.

Fulfilling a. long-felt want of the district, electricity has at last been installed in the Kakariki Maori meeting house, and everyone was pleased to see its brilliant beams illuminating the buildings on Friday night. A euchre and dance was held, and despite inclement weather conditions, a large attendance was present, including visitors from numerous snr rounding districts. Decorated by Mr and Mrs J. M. Durie and helpers, the meeting house looked attractive with its pink and green twisted streamers, while crossed ferns with jonquils entwined covered the walls. The finishing touches to the decorative scheme were contributed by massed green foliage placed in the corners. The floor was in first-class order, and excellent prizes were given for the card tournament. Supper left nothing to be desired- Bright music was contributed by Mr D. Durie and Mrs Stevens, and Mr R. Merrett carried out the duties of M.C. The lucky Gay Gordons were won by Miss T. Hakaraia and Mi- A. Simeon. The euchre tournament held for nondancers was won by Mrs Redpatli, with Mrs Beran second, while in the men’s section Mr E. Williams was first, and Mr Karitea second. The consolation prizes were won by Miss L. Cashel and Mr Be van. The night, which was the sixth of the series, concluded the aggregate prize competition the winners being Mrs Bevan aud Mr G. Armstrong. On behalf of the committee. Mr J. M. Durie tharffted all present for attending and expressed the hope that all had spent an enjoyable evening. He thanked Mr and Mrs Bevan for loaning the piano for the occasion. Mr Durie then announced that a similar func-

lion -would bo held in three weeks' time, and then presented the prizes to the winners. Conducted by Mrs Durie, assisted by Miss N. McFarland, a produce and fancy stall did brisk business.. The ladies’ committee, which is to bo congratulated on the excellence of the entertainment, consisted of Mesdames ,T. M. Durie (Aorangi), T. Rogers (Bulls). T. Riwai, .Tctomo, Itauhilii and 2*outama.
