Work at Awapuni

LIGHT PBOGBAMMB YESTERDAY

BEAU PE BE FILLIES HAVE THEIB FIRST SPKINT The programme at Awapuni yester* day was a light one, but one very interesting item was the initial sprint of the Beau Pere—Barbarcan and Beau Pere—Drama fillies. The course proper was closed, but the trial grass with the going particularly good was available for fast work. The fillies, with 3. B. Tattersall on the Barbacan and W. J. Broughton the Drama, looked a picture as they went througu to the trial grass and moved quickly round to just short of the two-furlong disc where they hopped away for their first gallop. They seemed to know what was required of them for they moved straight down the home stretch and finished together in 29. Then tney were slowed down and returned contentedly to their stalls. j Great Legion was not required to do much better than half pace to the two-j furlong mark and he ran the last two in 26 3-5. This brilliant youngster will be worth keeping in mind for he is a rare galloper. * Prediction was clocked to do similar work to his stablomate, Great Legion, and PurOto, who looks well, ran the last three in 40 3-5. Aurora's Love (L Howe) was worked over a mile, the last seven taking her j 1.34 2-5. She was favouring a leg when j she went out but she seemed a hundred per coat, after she had warmed up. She | ran the last three in 41 1-5 and she was going strongly at the finish. It is under-, stood that she will leave for Riccarton to-day. _ I Sudan (H. Johnstone) was never oil , tho bit in running live in 1.11, and Beau- ] partir (Johnstone) and Thraeos (Bow-j den) sprinted an easy half-mile, tho last

three taking them 40. Selkirk ran his best race to date m finishing third to Informer and Merry Thought iu tho maideu sin furlongs on Saturday. Selkirk, however, was lame when ho returned to the bird-eago and it is reported that he broke down aDout three furlongs from home. W. Pine expects that it will be two months before Selkirk is ready to rejoin the active brigade.
