Hockey in the City

PHOENIX AND CENTRAL OLD BOYS DRAW With Massey College defaulting to Broadway, owing to the vacation, there was only one senior A hockey game played in Palmerston North on Saturday. In this, Central Old Boys and Phoenix drew, 2-all. D. Hoare and Philp scored for C. 0.8., and Tester and J. Sutton for Phoenix. The umpires were Messrs F. McLachlan and W. H. Wilson. In the senior B competition, High School (4) beat Phoenix (3). Boniface (2), Abraham and Palmer scored for the winners, and Goodwin (2) and I. Levy for the losers. Messrs W. D. Philp and F. McLachlan had charge of the game. The Massey Ccfllege senior B team defaulted to Broadway. In the junior competition Combined Services (6) beat Broadway (2). Leader (2), Metcalfe (3) and Toms netted for Combined Services, and Burrows (2) for the losers. The umpires were Messrs D. Hoare and J. D. McDonald. Central Old Boys (6) beat High School (2). Oliver Sullivan and Bennett scored for the winners, and N. Anderson and W. Waters for the losers. Messrs B. Palenski and J. D. McDonald umpired. In a friendly game the Broadway senior -A team beat Woodville by 3 goals to nil. Championship Points. Following are the championship points in the three competitions, as kept by the association’s statistician (Mr. J. D. McDonald) Senior A.

High School 10 34 0 Ladies* Trial Game. With a view to enabling the selector (Mr. J. K. Patou) to pick a team to represent Manawatu at the Dominion tournament, which is to be held at Gisborne, a trial game was played on Saturday between ladies* A and B teams. The A team beat the B team by five goals to nil after a niatch in which it was revealed that there was some yery promising material. The representative team will be announced later in the week.
