MINISTER OF TRANSPORT’S COMMENTS AND COMMISSIONER’S APPRECIATION (Kosy: - Screening now.) The following is a copy of a letter from Hon. R. Semple, Minister of Transport to the advertising manager of the Paramount film company (N.Z.) Ltd.:— “With reference to your telephone message asking whether I would comment on the film, ‘ ‘ Toll of the Road, ’ ’ I would like to say, after seeing the picture, that I commend to every citizen of New Zealand the lesson and message it conveys. “Yours faithfully, “R. Semple. “Minister of Transport.” Mr G. M. Laurenson, Commissioner of Transport wrote as follows: — ‘' May I convey to you this expression of a appreciation of your invitation to the staff of this department to view the picture, “Toll of the Road?” That tho invitation was so readily availed of, will I am sure, be regarded as a tribute to the interest you have taken in the matter. “This film, depicting as it does, the disasters which may result from a disregard of traffic laws and rules, is of particular interest, as its main theme — that of the drunken driver —is occupying tho serious attention of those engaged in traffic administration. “Although more than a pictorial ‘Road Code’ the film does portray what are the guiding rules of conduct on tho road and shows, very realistically, the misery and suffering which so often follow breaches of the traffic laws. “Yours faithfully, “G. M. Laurenson.” Leading an important cast in ‘ ‘ Toll of [the Road,” are Randolph Scott and Frances Drake. Supporting cast includes Tom Brown, Billy Lee, and Fuzzy Knight.
