Electrocuted at Work
Power Board Employee Killed Instantly SECOND MAN INJURED Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, Last Night. Through coming in contact with high voltage electrical equipment inside a steel transformer kiosk in West End road, Herne Bay, this morning, an employee of the Auckland Electric Power Board was electrocuted instantaneously. Another man suffered slight shock. The victims were:— Killed: Wilfred Nelson Bright, foreman carpenter, married, aged 44, of Ponsonby. He had been an employee of the board since ID^W. Injured: James Hodley Porteous, carpenter, married, aged about 40, of Grey Lynn. He suffered shock and his com dition is not serious. The kiosk is one of several being erected in the Herne Bay district to accommodate electrical switch gear. It was the duty of Bright and Porteous as carpenters to erect wooden barriers between various phases in the switch apparatus, through which 6600 volts were passing at the time of the fatality. Accidentally Bright came in contact with the live equipment and was killed outright. He was thrown back against Porteous who was working near by and who also suffered a slight shock. When he recovered sufficiently Porteous, who was the only witness of the accident, telephoned for help.
